Over the course of my career, I’ve always in one way or another, fallen into a role of process improvement within the various companies I worked with. When I learnt how to use the Lean Management methodologies, and saw how powerful they could be, I knew that I wanted to share it with as many businesses as possible to help them expand and become successful.
I look at process improvement like a puzzle that has many pieces which should fit together perfectly once complete. When you open a puzzle box, you usually find a few pieces already joined together correctly. However, there are still many pieces that need to find their right home.
Business processes, I find, are similar in that some of them work correctly and some rest don’t. Finding solutions to making a process work seamlessly is like finding the right piece of the puzzle.
First, let me explain what a business process is. A business process is any sequence of steps which needs completing during the course of a business transaction. Such as each task completed when a customer places an order to when the goods get shipped to the customer.
My role as a Business Process Improvement consultant is to break down each of the steps in a business process, identify those that fit together in harmony and find solutions to those that don’t.
I now identify simple, cost-effective and timesaving solutions which improve the process and result in a well-organised and streamlined business which delivers 100% customer satisfaction.
As each of my clients always has different ways of working, I get to explore new tools and software packages regularly, which, for a Technolgy geek like myself, is exciting as I get to develop and learn new skills continually.
However, at the end of the day, why I love Process Improvement and the job that I do, is that I get to help small business, grow into successful companies, by sharing the skills and knowledge I’ve developed over the years.
